Night-time at Paronella

The challenge from Ailsa at “Where’s my backpack” is a photo taken at night. Her photos of fireworks are beautiful and I know how hard they are to catch.

So I went through my photos and found this…

Night time tour of Paranella Park

This beautiful building is a memory of one mans dream.

Jose Paronella came to Australia and had this dream to build a castle for himself and his family. The story of Paronella Park is an amazing story of what one man can achieve with guts and determination He bought this 13 acres in 1929. It was a life times work and is in the tropical rainforest area of Queensland. Fire, flood and cyclones destroyed this dream in the late 1900’s  but is now partially restored and the walks through the rainforest take you to lakes and a waterfall that was the first turbo generated electricity scheme in Australia. They have a caravan park on the property and for $14 you can stay on a powered site over night and then take the walk through the rainforest in the dark with a torch to shine your way. As you stand in front of the remains of the castle the spot-lights are turned on and the scene becomes a magical wonderland.

  1. What in incredible history this castle has – I’m so glad it is in the hands of people who see it as a work of art. Wonderful post, pommepal, and great shot!

  2. Wonderful post – it does have a fairy tale quality – this is a great image!

    • Their story is a real fairy tale with drama and now happy ending with new owners renovating the lovely old place

  3. This is such a fascinating photo – the imagination can go wild with all the possible fairytales that could be born just from this image.

I would love to get to know you, please leave a comment
