Weekly Photo Challenge : Warmth

A highlight of travel is the warmth of making new friends around a campfire.

It is one of the endearing customs that develop as you move along the road. The warmth of a campfire draws people together to share a drink or two and swap jokes and stories about places and people they have met.

Not every state in Australia allows fires to be lit, but the places that do allow the camp fire tradition are the places where the strongest friendship bonds are made.

Sometimes it is just the 2 of us

Other times a group gathers to swap yarns and beers

Sometimes the fire is needed when the wind whips across the plains with a chilly blast.

Some times it becomes an impromptu get together with kindred spirits at a freedom camp in the middle of nowhere.

Of course great care must be taken when lighting fires in the Australian bush, a stray spark or a fire not put out can cause this…

This week Ben sets us the theme “warmth”.

Show us your take on warmth. You can go from the literal (saunas! scarves! steaming cups of tea!) to the figurative (the embrace of family members coming together for the holidays, the look of affection on your pet’s face, or even just a photo with a particularly warm color palette, no matter its subject matter).

  1. There are a lot of wonderful memories here of warm friend ships.
Also you have not forgotten the wise warning, of the danger of a careless spark.

  2. I agree with you so much, some of the best memories of camping is gathering around the fire and just sitting looking into the flames…

    • Staring into the flames is quite mesmerising isn’t it Annie? A glass or two of wine lubricates the stories and friendships too.

  3. all great images, and many of them made me smile! now at almost midnight, i’m about to go to sleep! happy new year in advance! lisa/z

    • That year travelling around Australia was a great part of my life adventure. So pleased I have photos to share the experience.

Best wishes to you too for 2015 Lisa, look forward to sharing it with you.

  4. So much warmth in those pictures. And gathering around a fire holds a special atmosphere – maybe because it’s in our blood of history. Thousands and thousands of years.

    • Yes I hadn’t thought of it that way Leya, but it is a sort of primeval feeling sitting around a camp fire in the middle of the out back.

  5. To gather and bond around a campfire must be imbedded in our DNA. There is nothing more pleasurable on a summer night. 🙂

    • I never thought of that, but I like it “embedded in our DNA”,I agree it does go back to our cave man days doesn’t it…
