I find this picture intriguing. The little guy on the cage is rather strangely out of proportion, but he is happy.
What is in the cage? The old fellow looks quite contented and happy.
I have to smile every time I look at this photo.
With mirth and laughter let old wrinkles come.
This is pure exuberance. The cheerleaders giving us their all for the photo. It is 1991.
They were taking part in the huge 499th annual Columbus parade in Philadelphia of the “discovery” of America by Christopher Columbus.
A day without laughter is a day wasted.
At the same parade Jack got close and personal with a happy clown.
Everybody laughs the same in every language because laughter is a universal connection.

Great photos, they made me smile.
Pleased they made you smile Dawn
the photos are great, but what is in the cage?
Now that will forever remain a mystery!!!!
Delightful! I’m glad I chose to read this rather than the bad news in the newspaper to start my day. 🙂
Pleased it made you smile. Not much good news around at the moment
What a happy post, Pauline! Love the photo of Jack and the clown. 🙂
Happy days in USA Sylvia
When were you over here?
We spent 6 weeks in 1991 using a Delta air pass and Greyhound buses to explore a small part of your beautiful country.
what a joy to peruse this post today Pomme 🙂
and the one of jack was fun to end with because I have just learned about your other half (a few months ago) and so nice to see old shots- and with a clown – even better.
cheerleaders were cool too – and I can see why that first shot makes you smile every time you see it – it truly is a special photo – for the joy – and the cage mystery as you note – and the guy on the cage matching the real guy – so much in the backdrop too – just a culture rich photo that is truly unique – and perfect for the laughter theme.
“With mirth and laughter let old wrinkles come….”
Lovely comment Yvette. We did have a fantastic time when we visited USA in 1991. Like Australia it is such a huge country we could only see a very small part n the 6 weeks we were there. Would love to visit again
whew – 6 weeks is such a longgggg time – and ’91 feels like yesterday to me in some ways – were u in Florida that year?
