Travel Theme : Tiny

grevillea in rain_4000x3000

Like tiny diamonds the raindrops sparkle and twinkle on the stamens of the Grevillea. The closer you look the more they sparkle.

From 2000 to 2010 Queensland was in the grip of a severe drought. Every drop of water was precious. Then the floods of 2010 and 2011 devastated the land, but renewed growth followed in the aftermath. Now for the past 4 years nature has been kind, the rain has been gentle and nourishing, the sun has been warm and renewing and I cherish every day, but wonder when will this cycle of plenty change…

Rain is grace; rain is the sky descending to the earth;

without rain, there would be no life.

John Updike

Travel Theme : Energy #2 Fire…

Fire lighting using 2 sticks

Fire lighting is very hard work

Fire lighting is very hard work

For the first Australians the creating and use of fire was the source and energy of their survival.

It is not light that we need, but fire;

it is not the gentle shower, but thunder.

We need the storm, the whirlwind, and the earthquake.

Frederick Douglass

Travel Theme : Energy

The raw energy of the waterfall as it thunders and roars its way to the ocean is an awesome sight.

Man has now harnessed all that energy.

The water then flows out into a beautiful man-made lake.

Water is the driving force of all nature.

Travel Theme : Mischievous

As I took an early morning

stroll along Clairview Beach, a small isolated spot along the Queensland coast, I spotted this dog.

She was all alone and she spotted me.

She grabbed a handy stick and came running toward me.

“Please play” she seems to be saying, with mischief in her eyes.

Who could refuse that appealing look.

She stayed and played with me for a while. Then sat down, exhausted. “Enough’s enough” she seemed to say, as she sat and watched me as I went on my way.

Jack, in a mischievous mood, couldn’t resist giving this maiden a cuddle. I think she gave him the cold shoulder

Photography 101 : Landmark (beachmark…)

Palm Beach HDR pc 020 crop 2_2564x3672

The beaches along the Goldcoast can be dangerous. The rips and sometimes wild surf, can catch swimmers unawares. So the land/beach mark to look for is the red and yellow flags. ALWAYS swim between them. Every summer a few unsuspecting tourists, who do not, are swept out to sea and drowned.

The lifeguards keep a sharp look out and the life saving equipment is always at the ready.

These are iconic landmarks on Goldcoast beaches (especially the girl in the bikini)

Photography 101 : Day 2, Street

This is James Street the main shopping street of the Goldcoast suburb of Burleigh. How can I describe this area in one photo?

I can’t…

So I hope I am not breaking the rules of Photography 101 by giving you a gallery.

This stranger saw me pointing the camera in her direction and this is the response I received. This to me shows the spirit and friendliness of this place I call home. James Street has not been kidnapped by the multi-nationals, no big business boys along this street. It is lined with small boutiques, trendy little cafes and a multitude of restaurants. Notice the smiles on every ones faces, the water fountain for drinking water on the right hand side.

So this is my photo for day 3, but I just had to show you more of this street…
