Travel Theme : Mischievous

As I took an early morning

stroll along Clairview Beach, a small isolated spot along the Queensland coast, I spotted this dog.

She was all alone and she spotted me.

She grabbed a handy stick and came running toward me.

“Please play” she seems to be saying, with mischief in her eyes.

Who could refuse that appealing look.

She stayed and played with me for a while. Then sat down, exhausted. “Enough’s enough” she seemed to say, as she sat and watched me as I went on my way.

Jack, in a mischievous mood, couldn’t resist giving this maiden a cuddle. I think she gave him the cold shoulder

Photography 101 : Landmark (beachmark…)

Palm Beach HDR pc 020 crop 2_2564x3672

The beaches along the Goldcoast can be dangerous. The rips and sometimes wild surf, can catch swimmers unawares. So the land/beach mark to look for is the red and yellow flags. ALWAYS swim between them. Every summer a few unsuspecting tourists, who do not, are swept out to sea and drowned.

Weekly Photo Challenge : Silhouette

Stormy sea

This is not how Surfers Paradise in Queensland Australia is normally seen. It is normally bathed in sunshine with a brilliant blue sky backdrop and hundreds of tourists enjoying our pristine sandy beaches.

This day we had been given a tsunami warning around the Pacific Rim. It was later down-graded to a storm warning. The ocean was boiling and the winds howling and through the spume and spray the iconic buildings of Surfers stood out in silhouette. The power in the ocean was spectacular.

This is a late entry to last weeks challenge. Now I have to find some thing foreign to catch up….

Weekly Photo Challenge : Happy

I am very happy with the theme of the weekly photo challenge. It is a subject that can be interpreted in so many ways. I also like the new gallery layout. I did not like the old gallery layout and did not use it. This new one is very impressive.

So the theme is happy…

Happy is a frame of mind.

I am happy with the place I live, Burleigh is on the Goldcoast and has a beautiful climate. My photos show the beach and the walkway around the Burleigh Heads National Park. The lookout is from the walkway over to Surfers Paradise.

Happiness is also having good friends you can share experiences with and family to celebrate all those special times together. It is important to have a wider circle of friends that, for me, come from belonging to a garden club.

I also find great happiness in the garden, watching plants grow and mature. Creating a place of beauty.

Then of course travel, the joy of discovering new places and meeting new friends, gives me deep satisfaction.

I read of a survey carried out on many people. At different times of the day and night they would receive a phone call and be asked what they were doing and rate their happiness at that time on a scale of 1 to 10. The experts then assessed the findings and found that what consistently gave people most happiness was sharing a meal with family or friends.

When I look at these photos the ones in my memory that gave me the most joy and happiness are the ones I am sharing with other people.

Weekly Photo Challenge : Solitary : Bird 2….

Sunset, Hokitika

This photo is one of Jack’s You can see more of Jack’s photos on his blog http://jacksjottings.wordpress.com . It is a favourite of mine and he kindly said I could use it in this post. The seagull poised on his own before taking off.

To stand at the edge of the sea, to sense the ebb and the flow of the tides, to
feel the breath of a mist moving over a great salt marsh, to watch the flight of
shore birds that have swept up and down the surf lines of the continents for
untold thousands of years, to see the running of the old eels and the young shad
to the sea, is to have knowledge of things that are as nearly eternal as any
earthly life can be.

Sounds of the bush

Buttress roots of large rain forest tree

Burleigh headlands National Park, walking track

A walk in the bush can revive your spirits. As you walk through the dappled light and listen to the sounds of the bush around you it is like an orchestra. The main theme is the buzz of the insects, a constant drone in the background. Overlaid by the sighing of the wind. The soloist are the birds as they intermittently join in. The rustling of the leaves and branches rubbing together adds another layer to this orchestral masterpiece. This is a photo of a special walk for me as it is only a 5 minute bike ride from home so is easily accessible. The very special bonus on this walk is that it runs right along side the ocean so there is the added sound of the ocean in all its moods as it sighs and laps on a peaceful day or crashes and roars when the weather turns wild.

It is ever-changing, never boring…
