A to Z Challenge : T for Trees

Trees the mighty guardians of the earth.

“A nation that destroys its soils destroys itself. Forests are the lungs of our land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people. ”
Franklin D. Roosevelt

This carpet python would be in our Grevillea tree for hours, patiently waiting for the Rainbow lorikeets to arrive for their evening meal. We never saw him in action, but often we would find a few forlorn, multicoloured feathers scattered in the grass and the python would be gone until it was his next meal time.

He was a beautiful creature and we loved to welcome him into our garden. Then, sadly, one day we found him dead in the back of the shrubbery with a large gash along his side. We believe someone, who had a fear of snakes, had killed him. So sad as this snake is non poisonous and of no danger to us.

Couldn’t resist adding a couple more “S” images.

A to Z Challenge : Q for Qantas

Qantas image from Google

Qantas image from Google

I am very late with Frizztex’s challenge this week. I have struggled with my conscience. I did have some photos I had taken of Qantas planes in various airports to put in for this weeks letter “Q”, BUT all the photos I had on an external hard-drive have gone, disappeared, sadly gone AWOL. A disaster, but not a major one as I do have back-ups of the back-ups on this hard-drive, BUT they are thousands of kilometres away in Queensland (another Q!!!).

So I found the above image in Google…

These two rather blurred photos were snapped as we left Queensland to fly to Perth so they are still on the compute

Then there is this version of the song “I still call Australia home” that Qantas used in their iconic advertisement back in 1998. It always gives me goose-bumps when I hear it. To me it says “This is my land and I am proud to be an Australian.”

A to Z Challenge : P for Pottery

Frizztext’s A to Z challenge this week is “P” and that takes me back to 2001 when we were in Korea at the same time as the “2nd Biennial World Ceramic Expo”. What an amazing display of pottery and ceramics from around the world.

Korean pottery is acknowledged for its beauty and form, it is a reproduction of nature created by God. Visit this site to learn about the fascinating history of Korean Pottery and to see some exquisite pottery.

As we entered the expo site we passed this huge kiln. Pots were being made and fired on site. I had never seen such a large kiln before.

Now I wanted to find some appropriate music, so a search around and You Tube produced this, enjoy the calming effect of watching the pot slowly evolving from the raw clay and mastery of the potter.

A to Z Challenge : O for Outback

The road travels endlessly to the horizon

The road travels endlessly to the horizon

2010 was a good year in the Australian Outback, the rains had fallen on the usually dry and barren land and the shimmering  silver of the Mitchel grass plains stretched to the horizon to meet the relentless blue of the sky. It is an unforgettable sight.

It was the year we travelled round Australia. Photographs cannot convey the splendour and immense beauty of this land. The emptiness and vastness, the feeling of isolation, it is a land that must be experienced.

The life giving windmill

The life giving windmill

As sun sets we find a place to camp among some spindly gum trees and listen to the quiet whirring of the windmill as it draws the life-sustaining water from deep in the earth. We drift to sleep under a huge canopy of stars.

For thousands of years the Aboriginals lived in harmony with the Outback. I came across this inspiring YouTube as I searched for music to add to this post.

A to Z challenge : N is for National Parks

Nature is protected and preserved in National Parks.

Here are a few examples of National Parks I have walked in New Zealand.

Haast Pass National Park

Haast Pass National Park

The walk through Haast Pass National Park, situated on the West coast of new Zealand’s South Island, is a journey into a wonderland of native rainforest, Teatree’s, ferns and dripping mosses.

This is a contrast to the other National Parks, dry and stony, the track is leading to the Fox Glacier in the Southern Alps of New Zealand.

I searched Google for any tunes about “National Parks” and I found this spectacular video and music depicting Yosemite National Park. I hope you enjoy it.

It is a Misty Morning on the Mountain.
