Weekly Photo Challenge : Life Imitates Art…

“Life imitates art far more than art imitates Life.”

— Oscar Wilde

Artists are inspired by and capture the world around us: sculptors immortalize people with statues; painters record events in their masterpieces. What about the other way around? For this week’s theme, find inspiration in a piece of art, and go further: imitate it.

Now that is a challenge to get me thinking.

Then my thoughts flew to the recent “Swell Festival”. An annual celebration of sculpture displayed along the beautiful Currumbin beach of the Gold Coast.

She didn’t realise it, but she was definitely imitating this art.

Then I saw these young Asian girls trying to imitate the feeling of the wind blowing and buffeting them as it did the octopus sculpture. (it was a very windy day)

Now this last one is border line for this theme. But the sculpture is a definite statement and it attracted many Mothers to pose on it.

I took over 300 photos on the day. The standard of sculptural art was very high. This festival is held every year in September.

I’m sure there will be many interesting interpretations of the challenge this week.
